“Take My Breath”-TheWeeknd Song Review

Jonathan Rodriguez

Intro

The Weeknd, known for his smooth blend of dark R&B, pop, and synth-heavy beats, released the single “Take My Breath” on August 6, 2021. This track brings an upbeat, 80s-inspired vibe. Coming off the success of his previous album “After Hours”, “Take My Breath” is a refreshing shift into something high-energy and danceable. This song hinted towards the fact that his new upcoming album would be 80s inspired pop songs which is a full 180 of “After Hours” which was more darker and slow.

Song Review

The track opens with a pulsing beat that instantly hooks you, throwing you right into a fast-paced nightlife. The production is crisp, with a steady disco-influenced bassline that gives the song a vintage yet modern feel. Right from the start, you can tell this is a track designed to get you moving, with a beat that builds anticipation for what’s coming next.

Lyrically, “Take My Breath” keeps things direct and intense. The Weeknd’s lyrics focus on the thrill of desire and the allure of losing control, singing, “Take my breath away, And make it last forever, babe.” The straightforwardness of the lyrics complements the upbeat production, making it easy to get lost in the song’s high energy.

As the song progresses, the beat intensifies. The Weeknd’s vocals are smooth and confident, guiding listeners through this hypnotic experience. The production leans heavily on synths and bass, giving it that signature 80s pop feel but with a modern twist. This isn’t the dark, moody Weeknd we’re used to, instead, he’s stepping into a carefree dance vibe that feels refreshing. This song shows a complete contrast to his usual songs which gives the fans a new taste of what’s to come on the new album.

Final Thoughts

“Take My Breath” shows a different side of The Weeknd, one that’s bold, high-energy, and 80s pop. The production is amazing, with that disco-inspired and synth-heavy beat giving it a nostalgic feeling. It’s a fun track that makes you want to move and lose yourself in the music. While it doesn’t dive as deep emotionally as some of his previous work, it’s a nice change for the usual listeners and a new way of reaching a broader audience.

My score: 8.8/10
