Remind Me By Bastille
Hey, what’s going on my fellow songwatchers, I’m back with another review this week. Piggybacking off of the previous “Pompeii” review, my sights and ears are on another Bastille song. After discovering Bastille while playing the racing game, Need For Speed: Rivals, I always looked out for new music from the band. In June 2022, I was excited to see that they had released a new single, “Remind Me”. Having released a futuristic-themed album (which I was a little disappointed by) four months prior, I was hoping Bastille would take their creativity in a new direction with this single. To my delight, they did.
In “Remind Me”, Dan Smith (Bastille’s vocalist) basically sings about how he misses an ex-lover of his and how he’s reminded of everything they had together. It’s not like a sad breakup song; it’s more like a “light-hearted, reminiscing of the good times” kind of song, you know. The tone of the song is set with the quirky beat playing for the first three seconds. Then, Dan comes on spilling his thoughts out singing:
“I try to forget you, I try to move on
To run from the memories that keep me up till dawn
They break every silence, your voice is in my head”

It’s clear that whoever he’s singing about meant and still means the world to him. He continues to the chorus with,
“Who’s there beside you? (Who’s there? Who’s there?)
Who’s there to guide you? (Who’s there? Who’s there?)
Who’s there to sleep beside you?
You remind me of the things that I miss
On my sleepless nights, you haunt me, I miss your lips
You remind me of our days, they’re too good to fade away
Oh-oh, oh-oh, I remember them”

For the remainder of the song, Dan continues to reminisce about the woman he let slip away. I enjoy this song because the upbeat tempo meshes really well with the tone and note of Dan’s singing voice. It’s also pretty easy to sing along to which is a bit of a bonus.
