Joji, The Authentic Mastermind

Jonathan Rodriguez
Joji – Dissolve

Intro

Joji is one of the most talented artists I have heard in a long time. Since I was introduced to his music in 2020, I have been attached because of his authenticity. Joji, also known as Filthy Frank and Pink Guy, is known for his authentic emotions and lack of filters in his music. “Dissolve” is a song in which he talks directly about his feelings and love.

Song Review

The song begins with a slow and calm guitar that creates a serious tone. It feels like guitar notes you would play to your loved one to confess your love or a song you made just for them. Joji comes in quickly and straight to the point saying “It’s so hard just bein’ me sometimes, I wish I could escape out my mind”. There are short sounds that he includes in the production to add more emphasis to the words he’s saying. It makes the song feel more meaningful although it’s very subtle.

Lyrically he is expressing his feelings while going through a rough patch in his relationship. He feels as if his problems are getting to his relationship which may cause them to leave. He gets the sense that they’re slowly drifting apart from their initial love and now he begs them to stay. He acknowledges the fact that his partner has gotten the life they always wanted which makes him feel that he’s holding them back in life. He states “Please don’t leave me behind, Quite some time has passed, You fell right through my fingertips” showing how much he cares.

The production is simple and builds upon as it goes on which keeps the focus on his voice. You get to feel the sincerity and emotion-filled lyrics as he sings his mind out. With this simple production, you feel the cold atmosphere he’s creating. It’s genuine, powerful, and real.

Final Thoughts

“Dissolve” is a song that is targeted to a specific audience but for that audience, this song is incredible. It’s a song that may connect with you whether you’re going through a rough patch in life or having similar relationship problems. It’s a song built around vulnerability and real-life situations.

My score: 9.1/10
