Adele’s a Perfect Match for Skyfall
Movies like music are a great form of entertainment. Action-thriller movies specifically pique my interest. It’s not only the characters, the plot, or the action, but also the theme songs that interests me. The bottom line is interesting spy movies (action-thrillers) have good theme music to go with them. Look at some of the most-known spy movie series; Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible series has the iconic Mission Impossible theme. Matt Damon’s The Bourne Series has “Extreme Ways” by Moby. The massive James Bond franchise is a little different than their action-thriller counterparts. Each recent James Bond movie has had their own theme song and that’s what we’re going to talk about today.
The twenty-third film of the James Bond franchise, Skyfall has a terrific theme song. For a film based in England, it’s only right to have one of England’s best singers, Adele, create the theme song. “Skyfall” by Adele is a perfect match for the movie. If you listen to the lyrics, they kind of relate to events in the movie. The way the piano is played in the beginning of the song gives the listener a cloudy feeling. The end of the movie gives the viewer the exact same feeling. Even though the movie is over a decade old, I don’t want to spoil any events. However, the dark theme of the song is a reflection of the turn of events in the movie.
Adele starts the song singing softly for the first minute and twenty-five seconds leading up to the chorus. During that time, the piano in the background is very notable. The beat lead by percussion then drops and Adele starts to flex her singing prowess in the chorus. She continues singing in that high tone for the second verse and the rest of the song. She turns it up a notch to end the song off when she holds the high note on the last word of the song. What a great way to show off the signing range of this iconic English singer.
